We're Off to the Beach!

We're off Saturday to spend a week in Pawley's Island with Avery's Meme and grandpa. My great aunt and uncle are joining us, and even Heather, Jay, and baby Luke are coming for a few days. I can't wait to catch up with Heather, see Jay in action as a Dad, and hold Luke! From the sound of it, Avery's not much bigger than he is :)
Avery has her sunscreen, infant SFP "cabana," sun hat and bikinis ready to hit the beach. I think she'll get a kick out of the ocean and love the tidal pools and water. I hope I'm right or it's going to be a long week! Here's a sneak peak of what our beach photo opportunities could be - her latest "school" picture.
Margaritas, fresh shrimp, and baby sitters, here I come!

Happy 1st Father's Day!
Happy 1st Father's Day to Baby Daddy! Avery plans to celebrate her Dad by letting him sleep in and taking him out to lunch. Of course, she'll have to borrow mommy's Amex....As of 6/19, Avery was 5 months old. She can roll both ways, sit up well supported, and can eat rice cereal from a spoon. I think she's totally advanced for her age :) As for the picture above, I always swore I wouldn't be one of those parents that takes and shares pictures of my baby with baby food on thier face, but, I couldn't resist. I now see the appeal! The above picture with Avery's bewildered look pretty much explains our first cereal experience. But after a few tries, Avery got the hang of the spoon and seems to like the cereal. Well, that, or she's at least humoring me.

Just About 5 Months Old
One of Avery's favorite things to do is listen to her kid's music and "dance." I decided to experiment with the video function of my camera and recorded this one minute video clip of her enjoying her music. Once she got bored with that, she decided to see if her toes would reach into her mouth. They did - here's a much shorter clip of that. There are more pictures of our nearly 5-month old on the share site of this weekend's activities, which consisted mainly of exersaucer and bath time! Avery did sample some rice cereal for the first time Saturday and the verdict is still out on that one. It wasn't a success and it wasn't a failure. Eating from a spoon was just very new to her and she didn't quite know what to make of it!

Daddy's Girl

Avery and her Daddy have spent lots of quality time together lately as I’ve been doing a bit of traveling. Last weekend, I went to FL for a bachelorette weekend while Baby Daddy packed up Avery and her gear and took her to the Georgia BBQ Classic where he competed for the first time. While he was cooking up his award winning pork, he had lots of help taking care of munchkin. She even had her first sleep over Friday night at Auntie Danielle’s! The reports came in that was doing great at the festival and enjoying all the attention our friends lavished on her. Meanwhile, the BBQ team, Smokin’ Hot Butts and Racks, cooked up some mean Brunswick stew, ribs and pulled pork. Overall, the team placed 6th with Greg winning 2nd place for his pork in the amateur division. Very impressive, especially for his first competition! He got a nice trophy but instead of bringing it home, donated to his little helper, Baylor.
Aside from the competition, Baby Daddy took Avery on a long walk, a trip to Wal-Mart, and even had her bathed when I got home at 5:30 on Sunday. As for me, I missed Avery tons but had a great weekend showing off pictures of her in between spa treatments, hitting the beach and pool, and drinking my share of “Daddy’s Margaritas,” Coronas, and eating seafood!
Wednesday night, I traveled for work, so Avery and Daddy were on their own again. I checked in just before bedtime, and everything went just fine. Though I miss them like crazy, I am glad my travel has created an opportunity for Avery and her Dad have some alone time together to bond. Avery is so lucky to have a Dad that takes such great care of her. I really couldn’t have picked a better Baby Daddy!
