Spring has Sprung

Avery finished her first session of swim lessons today and got a good report from her swim teacher. This was a huge relief because she didn't want to go back after she jumped in the pool out of turn and had to be rescued last week. I didn't want to indulge her reluctance for fear of her developing a phobia of the water, so I insisted she go. I definitely doubted my decision after I had to carry her kicking and screaming into the pool area, but as soon as the lesson started, her tears subsided and she enjoyed it.
After burning off lots of energy swimming, we decided to take advantage of a beautiful spring day by picnicking at the park, then playing outside the rest of the afternoon (who has time for a nap?!?!) After such a busy day, this is what happened halfway through dinner. We called it at 7:15pm and tucked one exhausted little girl in bed. After all this activity, I'm not going to be far behind her!

March Madness

March has been a busy month so far with swim lessons, birthday parties, and of course, the March activity closest to my heart, March Madness. The NCAA tournament has had it's share of upsets so far, my favorite being LeHigh over Duke. It's fair to say that the Mountain Hawks just got themselves a huge new fan base of Tar Heels.
In other news, Greg has taken on a new hobby: baking bread. He and Avery purchased a bread machine on one of their unsupervised outings and have put it to work making bread and pizza dough. As much bread as we go through, the Publix bakery is going to start wondering what has happened to their biggest customer!

Swimming Lessons!

Now that Avery is 3, she is finally old enough to start swim lessons at the YMCA, and today was her first lesson as a Pike. She was so excited to swim without water wings, but I was a little worried as to how she'd do without me in the immediate vicinity.
It turns out I was worried for nothing. Avery did want me to walk her to the pool, but after that, I slipped away and her attention was directed to the lesson. She jumped in the pool, went under water, kicked her legs, and practiced floating with the instructor. She listened really well and even found a friend in class - another little girl from her class at school. She is excited to go back next week, and I'm excited to watch her develop new skills. I'm sure this is just how Amanda Beard got her start!
