On Sunday, Avery danced in her 2nd dance recital with the Academy of Dance Arts. As a Kinderdance student, she performed two dances this year: a ballet routine to "When You Wish Upon at Star" and a tap routine to "Build Me Up Buttercup." She loves dancing on stage, getting to wear makeup, a fancy costume, and having her hair done in a ballet bun. We love watching her dance and sure hope it's something she wants to continue for many years, despite the hefty price tag on these frilly costumes! Here are a few photos from recital week.

Easter 2014
I've been busy, you've been busy, so let's just forget that it's been months since my last update and pick up with Easter, shall we? The holiday was low key for us this year as we opted to spend a relaxing day at home. We kept busy dying Easter eggs, hunting Easter eggs, planting our garden and enjoying one of the first truly nice days of spring. Here are a few photos of our day.

Snow Days: Part Deux
Winter Storm Pax brought us sleet, snow, ice and 3 more snow days. Please can winter be over now? At least this snowfall was picturesque and was just the right kind of snow for building a snowman, and of course sledding!

Snow Days
Winter Storm Leon got the best of Atlanta last week by hitting us much earlier and harder than forecast. Ice and snow crippled our ill-prepared city and left many of us with harrowing commutes. Luckily, despite the treacherous road conditions, Avery and I got home safely. After the stress of the situation dissipated, we couldn't miss an opportunity to play in 3" of snow, despite our lack of winter gear. Only in the South will you find kids playing in the snow in rain boots! Now that we've had our fun, will someone tell Mother Nature we'd had our fill of snow and ice? Please and thank you.

Happy 5th Birthday
Last weekend, we celebrated Avery turning 5 with a Barbie themed bounce house birthday party. The highlight of the party, so I like to think, was the Barbie doll cake I made for the special day. Avery picked the cake out from multiple candidates on Pinterest and I put my unreliable baking skills to the test. Thank goodness for the Betty Crocker video tutorial or I never would have pulled it off! Avery had a great day celebrating with friends and family, and she didn't just like her cake, she loved it. As for me, next year, I'll leave the cake baking to the professionals!

Christmas 2013 Photos

Santa brought everyone something special this year, but I think Greg and Avery were on the extra nice list as Greg got help constructing a new workbench and Avery got the American Girl Doll she'd been asking for. After a relaxing New Year's cabin trip with friends, we're now getting ready for a certain someone's 5th birthday celebration. We'll be back soon with photos of the social event of 2014!

Merry Christmas 2013
Wow, I can't believe it's been over 6 weeks since my last post. We've been busy this last few weeks seeing the Radio City Rockettes, running a Turkey Trot and Jingle Jog, riding the Duck Dynasty float in our small town's Christmas Parade, and making Christmas cookies, of course. Needless to say, this holiday season sure has flown by and I can't believe it's Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
