We spent President's Day weekend 2011 in Charleston at the Southeastern Wildlife Festival. Since Greg (and Avery) had never been to Charleston, we had to do it up right, of course! I was really lucky to come across a townhouse rental on Society street in the historic district. It's location and beautiful decor provided the perfect home base to explore Charleston and attend festival events. Meme and Pa didn't want to miss the fun (0r an opportunity to see their grandaughter) so they joined us as well.

SEWE caters to both families and the outdoor obsessed members of them, so there was a lot to see and do. Avery liked the petting zoo, but wasn't interested in the birds of prey demo. She opted to play with rocks and dirt instead.

Avery got plenty of opportunities to explore the bounty of parks in Charleston. There is almost nothing this little girl likes more than the freedom to run!

Avery spent lots of quality time with Meme and Pa while Greg secured the secret to winning BBQ competitions at 'Cue Camp and I learned a new trick for burger preparation and made shortcakes at a wild game cooking class.

As it was February, we took every opportunity to enjoy raw oysters at their peak and had some great meals at Amen Street Fish House and Raw Bar, Fleet Landing, and Hank's. Our mouths are already watering for another visit to Charleston! Maybe we'll be back for SEWE 2012!
